Get a fountain pen. Seriously.
It forces you to write a little slower, but it pays off. It also makes you think about what you write.
And... get a GOOD fountain pen. One that flows properly for you. I found one in the P51 I have. I have a Lamy Studio as well, but it's not as nice as the Parker. Then there is the very old school fountain pen I still have, a Herlitz, which also flows very nicely for me.
The ink makes a difference too. Experiment. It really is worth doing. :)
If there is a pen show near you, go there and try out as many as you can, find one you like and buy it. Make sure you ask which INK is in it, so you can get that ink, too. (It really does make a difference.)

I hate to say this, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who's handwriting has gone downhill. I had beautiful handwriting in high school. Now there are days when I'm lucky if I can read my own notes. I've been writing my stories by hand more lately thinking it would help, but not so much. I can't write fast enough and that's about the time when I grumble about forgetting all the shorthand I learned in high school. Back in the ye olde days when shorthand, Gregg shorthand, was actually taught in high school.
