It’s a bit breezy
Autumn is definitely here.
The mornings are fresh and misty. The leaves are starting to show their colors. The (few) apples are dropping. The wind is ever present. The weather is turning. It’s getting colder. The nights are drawing in.
I’m “winterizing” places, like the barn. Did a big cleanup in there today, and need to figure out the best spot for the winter hay, that doesn’t get into all the wood.
Tomorrow I’ll get two big wooden boxes, one for the boys for hay and also to keep some weather out; the other will go where the lime was, to provide more dry stacking area for winter wood.
It’s been a bit of a job tho!
I’ve also added a porch. It’s not the prettiest, but it’s functional, and it keeps the rain off things. Like wellies.
I’m really glad I won’t have to schlepp all the dirt and rain into the living room this year, or make a mad dash for the front door when I get back with the shopping, all the while fending off cats who try to get out of the door while I carry the bags in.
And I can keep most of the wood outside, that’s also a bonus. Maybe a few less spiders that way.
Squeaky is convinced I’ve put it there for her. She sleeps in the cat baskets every night now. Don’t blame her, it’s a lot less drafty than the barn!
The chickens are still roosting on the branches, despite having a perfectly acceptable chicken house. Go figure.
I’ve heard Zelda sing the egg song a few times now, but I still haven’t found any eggs.
It’s been such a wet summer, cold too, and the apples are sparse this year.
My veggie plot… yeah. It’s gone haywire, but I can’t find any of the potatoes I’ve planted. A few carrots, and that’s about it. The cauliflower got eaten by caterpillars, and I only got ONE tomato. A couple of peppers, and that’s it.
The workshop is almost done, so maybe this winter I can get some projects done in there for a change. You know, within reach of the TOOLS. Rather than dig through piles of stuff to try and find the bit I need.
I’ll restart the journal again in October. I’ve really sucked at getting that done this year — again — and shall try to do better.
So, that’s about it from me for the day. I shall try again tomorrow.
Maybe. 😉
I shall have to revisit this next year.
